Landguard Fort The present Landguard Fort in Felixstowe was originally built in 1717. It was extensively remodelled between 1871 and 1875, and its armament then included five 12.5" Rifled Muzzle Loading Guns, five 10" Rifled Muzzle Loading Guns, and two 9" Rifled Muzzle Loading Guns. The fort was extended between 1901 and 1904, when two new concrete gun emplacements were added to the west and south of the Fort. The western gun emplacement was named Darell's battery, and was armed with two 4.7" Quick Firing Guns. The southern gun emplacement was named Right Battery, and was armed with one 10" Breech Loading Gun and two 6" Breech Loading Guns.
